Work

I'm currently employed at Shavlik Technologies. My title is Senior Software Engineer. I'm currently the Lead for the Database / Data Tools team. We support and contribute components for all of the Shavlik products that relate to data access and internal tooling to support our data management team that produces all the data feeds that keep our solutions fed with the most current and consice data possible to provide our customers with all of their evolving security needs. I have previously worked on all the non-Microsoft, namely UNIX platforms and solutions. Our main solution is patch management. In the past I've written a series of tools to assess what patches a system needs and other tools to deploy the patches on all sorts of funky systems. We're working on new stuff all the time, so if you want to know what we've got going on, check out the website.

I used to do all sorts of other fun things like... After college I accepted a position with Secure Computing in Roseville Minnesota... When I worked there I was a QA Engieer. I built all sorts of internal test tools, frameworks and test automation for the Sidewinder Firewall, Premeir Access, SmartFilter and the 3Com Embedded Firewall. I also played some mean softball for the company.

For the three summers I worked for the City of Saint Paul. While there I worked with WebServices, building, maintaining, and expanding their website and web applications. We installed and maintained multihomed Unix and Linux webservers as well as created and maintained static and dynamic web content and applications. We extended city services and information into the information age. My co-worker Pete Nelson has his own domain where he distributes some of his freeware utilities that he has developed.

For three school years I worked on campus at UMD for the Center for Professional Development. The CPD is an extension of the University College of UMD. The office provides Individualized Learning Programs, distance learning via the internet through websites and the course management software TopClass. In 1998-1999 my partner James and I wrote some third pary development software called TestMaker for the TopClass course management system. The CPD also offers professional education and training in our state of the art computer lab. I was responsible for many things, including the University College website.
